Floor space utilisation
QCD: measuring manufacturing performance, Published by the Department of Trade and Industry in 2004 suggested that Floor Space Utilisation (FSU) is: ‘…a measure of the sales revenue generated per square metre of factory floor space.’
It can be applied at cell level or across the whole manufacturing site for internal benchmarking. Increasing FSU typically involves reducing floor space, and can require rethinking a process layout and eliminating inventory.
Floor space utilisation (FSU £/m²) = Sales turnover of model area / Square metres of model area.
